Edmonton’s Prototype Play test Event

2PL&Y is a unique opportunity to come together and play prototypes from various game designers. As a playtester you will be able to play prototypes and provide valuable feedback that will help shape future board games. No experience as a playtester required.

A huge thanks to HI Edmonton for providing a space for designers and playtesters to come together for this event.

What to expect

Prototype Playtesting: Sign up below to secure your spot at a playtest or show up on event day to fill any empty seats.

Give Feedback: After each playtest a brief feedback session will take place.

Meet Designers: Chat with the creators and play their board game prototypes.

Community Fun: Connect with fellow board game lovers in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

HI Edmonton Venue: Enjoy the event at the centrally located and comfortable Hi Edmonton. The event will take place in the lower level meeting room. Attendees have access to the games room across the hall and the lounge, Kitchen and bathrooms on the first floor. There is residential parking on the streets behind the HI Edmonton. When you arrive if you need to be let in just tell them you are attending 2PL&Y the Gamer Get2gether.

Table 1

Titan Borne

Presented by Scott MacArthur

Type: 4x | #of players: 3-4 | Age range: 12+

Play time: 1:30 – 2:00 Hours

Theme: Space Grand Strategy

As your Civilization reaches into the stars, you’ll need to make choices that expand your empire: Making diplomatic deals with other species you encounter, Set up trade contracts to strengthen your economy, or build warships and conquer those who get in your way.

Spell Frogs

Type: Dice Drafting & Move/collect | #of players: 2-6 | Age range: 12+

Play time: 1:00 Hours (4 players)

Theme: Magical component gathering

In the game Spell Frogs, players take on the role of a frog cursed by a witch. The objective of the game is to collect all six spell components and add them to your cauldron to be cast & lift the curse. The six components include a Spell Book, Magic Wand, Ingredient Pouch, Ingredient Bottle, Magic stone, and Mixing Guide. Each component is marked with a symbol indicating it’s type. You will need to collect the
specific types your cauldron requires. The less symbols you use, the easier the cauldron spell will be to cast. Hop to it!

Stagecraft

Type: Worker Movement/Tableau Building | #of players: 2-4 | Age range: 14+

Play time: 40min/player

Theme: Musical Development

Stagecraft is a tableau building game where players are trying to become the most famous songwriter by writing & performing the music to the best Broadway musical. Over the course of the games 7 rounds, players will write their musical, attract investors, hire actors and musicians, and advertise to build an audience.

Dungeon Delver

Type: Tile placement dungeon crawler | #of players: 2-4 | Age range: 8+

Play time: 30-45 minutes

Theme: Fantasy

Dungeon Delver is where you choose a class and explore a dungeon. Not knowing what is around each corner you could meet monsters, traps, short cuts or even a friendly merchant. Your goal is go loot for equipment and leave with 3 bags of treasure before everyone else does.

Theme: Deduction, fable

Unravel the legend of the Nine-Colored Deer in this strategic deduction game inspired by Dunhuang’s timeless tales. With just nine cards, master the art of placement and deduction as you navigate shifting alliances and spatial tactics to outwit your rivals!

Yangtze River

Theme: Environmental, Animal


Immerse yourself in a strategic eco-adventure where every animal card you play helps protect the vibrant Yangtze River Basin. Strategically place and stack your cards to build a thriving ecosystem and score points as you champion conservation!

Theme: Gothic


Hearts meets monster apocalypse in this trick-taking game of survival and social manoeuvring! Take control of a gothic village gripped by the chaos of the spring festival! Encourage humans to gather, and avoid unique monsters from around the world as best you can. Human-Hunter-Monster-Cannibal is designed from the ground up to be colourblind friendly. Pray you survive when darkness falls!
